'X-Files' writers sign deal with DreamWorks, NBC

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - DreamWorks Television and NBC Studios have signed a multiyear deal with two of the writer-producers behind the hit Fox drama ``The X-Files'' to develop new TV programming for NBC, DreamWorks said Monday.

Under the new pact, partners Glen Morgan and Jim Wong will serve as executive producers for the upcoming DreamWorks TV thriller ``The Others,'' which NBC has ordered as a mid-season replacement for next year.

Morgan and Wong, who wrote and produced numerous episodes of ``The X-Files'' as co-executive producers of that show, also will begin to create additional series for NBC as part of their deal.

The duo have emerged as specialists in the paranormal genre of TV programming.

In addition to the web of aliens and government conspiracies they helped weave on ``The X-Files,'' they were executive-producers in charge of the similar-themed Fox show ''Millennium'' during the second of its three seasons.

They also teamed on the supernatural thriller ``Flight 180'' for New Line Cinema, with Wong directing and the two men sharing screenwriting credits.

``The Others'' is an hour-long drama about a group of people from different walks of life drawn together by their powers to connect to the spirit world. NBC has ordered 13 episodes, which are to begin airing sometime early next year.

A DreamWorks spokeswoman said Morgan and Wong essentially will assume the role of overseeing production of the show.
